House Barriers: what’s behind your siding will keep your home warm and dry
Siding is like a shield from the elements, but it’s the building barrier behind the siding that keeps your walls dry. Because we live in the Pacific Northwest, the house barrier must be installed correctly.
Most large, structural wall rot problems we repair are due to leaks. The leaks occur because:
- The house barrier is either failing or completely missing;
- The flashing is either blocked or improperly installed; or
- The house wrap was lapped inside or behind the flashing, which can create a path for water to drain.
Instead of a traditional Tyvex house wrap, Snowridge carpenters use a superior, commercial rolled-on product called Prosoco. You can sometimes see this product on high-rises during construction; wall Prosoco looks brown when applied on the walls, and Prosoco flashing membrane looks bright pink around window openings.
